Roatan has a truly unique system of man-made channels through the mangroves, connecting the villages on the coast. Transport of people and goods is still primarily by boat here. All day long you can see people buzzing by on ‘dories’ (dug out canoes with single engine motors), skiffs and various floating vessels of all shapes and sizes. Many homes and businesses are built over the water on stilts, and makes for a fascinating tour. This is something you won’t see anywhere else!
On the east end of the island there are extensive natural and manmade mangrove channels that connect you to some beautiful scenery. Because there are no roads out here you cannot see this scenery any other way.
We have a comfortable ‘panga’ – a 28’ open boat with sun roof which can tour you in style – stop for a cold drink in Oakridge or a picnic and a swim at Pigeon Keys. Our schedule is flexible!
